Steve i. Han, LAc

Hello.  My name is Steve I Han, Licensed Acupuncturist.  Do you believe you can heal yourself?  What does your body, mind, spirit need to do so?  I use acupuncture to down regulate stress so  you can get back into homeostasis.  My goal is to help you find balance in all areas of your life so you can be the best version of yourself.

You do not need to feel sick and depressed, be stressed out and burned out, or be in chronic pain and suffering, in order to try acupuncture.  In fact, you can "feel 100% healthy" and still get acupuncture treatments for preventive care.  As Benjamin Franklin said, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, it is all about balance and flow.  I understand that when "life happens" it can throw you out of whack and take you off balance, leaving your mind, body, and spirit in disharmony and stagnation, thereby manifests itself as so-called "symptoms".

Acupuncture activates your body's own self- healing mechanisms so you can get back into balance and optimal health.

Feel alive and thrive!  Let me share with you the effective art and science of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

How does it work?

What is Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) ?

TCM is a holistic integrative system of primary health care that looks at the body as well as the mind and spirit. TCM is based on Taoist principles of balancing Yin and Yang with emphasis on prevention and moderation.  TCM includes Acupuncture, Moxibustion, Electric Stimulation, Guasha, Cupping, Tuina Massage, Acupressure, Herbal Teas, Herbal Formulas, Qi-Gong, Tai Chi, Yoga, Nutritional Food Therapy, and Meditation.

How does it work?

TCM may activate the body's own self-healing mechanism.

From an Eastern perspective, TCM may promote the smooth flow of energy (Qi) in the body's pathways or meridians.  Where there are blockages  (emotional or physical), pain and illness results.  Where there is flow, there is balance and well being.

From a Western perspective,  acupuncture may recalibrate the nervous system by "down modulating the sympathetic up-regulation".  In other words to get off the chronic stress response.  In particular, acupuncture may get its pain relieving affects via "endogenous opiate release".   Endorphins may help with pain relief and may promote relaxation. Some studies have shown acupuncture to decrease the stress hormone cortisol.  Acupuncture may reduce allostatic load - "the wear and tear" of the body and unload some of the patient's overall burden from the stressors of life.  In addition, acupuncture may induce blood flow to kick start the immune system.  Electric acupuncture may be used on motor points to restore motor inhibitions and thereby improve function.

What to expect?

Please reserve about (1.5 hours) for your first visit.  The initial consultation includes a very thorough medical intake, covering all aspects of your health. Some of the questions may seem unrelated to your current medical condition, but remember that this holistic medical system is designed to treat you as a whole person--your body, mind, and spirit. We will look at your tongue and palpate your pulse.  During this assessment the LAc establishes a medical history and gets a clear picture of your chief complaints.

Return visits are about (1 hour).  The number of return visits depends on the individual's condition.  Acupuncture is not a one-shot deal.  It works cumulatively, meaning one treatment builds on the next. Therefore, most patients need a series of treatments.

Typically, acupuncture treatments are given 2 to 3 times a week in the early Relief Stage to reduce symptoms.  Then 1 to 2 times a week as patient transitions into the Corrective/Healing Stage.   During the Maintenance Stage, treatments are tapered down to tune ups and preventative care 1 to 2 times a month.
